1. "I don't appear to have a hornav in my template. Can you help please?"

Joomla! (TM) Templates have different elements depending on what template you are using.

You can see which ones are available by using the Template Manager:
Click Extensions Menu option in the Control Panel
Select Template Manager
You will then see which template you are using by the yellow star next to it
Joomla! (TM) comes with preinstalled templates and it is the JA_Purity template which has the hornav element associated with it.

2. "How do I install an extension?

When using any piece of software, it is always advisable to read the documentation first and become familiar with what the extension is supposed to do. Most companies/individuals who create extensions will have their own Web Sites that you can visit and get further information from.

For most extensions and most users, the procedure will be:

Download the extension to your PC

Login to your Administration area of your Joomla! (TM) site

Select Extensions Menu Option

Select Install/Uninstall option

Click the Browse button and navigate to where you downloaded the extension file

Click the Upload File & Install button

Follow any further instructions that come with the extension

Please Note: There are some situations in which this procedure will not work.

Sometimes you need to unzip the file on your PC prior to installing. If you get an error saying that the file is not in the correct format, the need to unzip is a common cause of this. After unzipping try installing the individual items. Note that the files you upload using the installer still need to be zipped.

Sometimes you cannot use the automated installer. For example, very large extensions may exceed the maximum upload size allowed by your host.

In this case, unzip all of the files on your PC. Then transfer the files to a folder in the the install directory(for example administrator/components/com_installer/components) for the type of extension you are installing (using FTP). Then use the installer, but select "install from directory" indicating the correct folder name.

3. How do I know if I can trust a hosting company?

Here are some tips on what to look out for when you are looking for an ISP (Internet Service Provider)

Unlimited Bandwidth: probably never means "Unlimited". When it comes to band width and web space there is always the “fair usage policy” not quite what you thought you paid for.

Slow Loading: I know that I have gone to websites and clicked off when it takes longer than a couple of seconds to start loading... and that can lose you business. This is due to the hosting company overloading servers with too many websites to keep costs down. The result - regular website downtime and delayed or lost data.

Location Based: When you are told the hosting is for example, “UK based” that doesn’t always mean the server is even in that country; and that means the IP address is not prioritised in your country by Google, so if you want front page listings, that’s not good news.

4. How do I create "Read more..."?

This is now implemented by inserting a tag (button is in the editor area) a dotted line appears in the edited text showing the split location for the "Read more...". A new bot takes care of the rest.

5. My dates don't appear in my own language, how do I change this?

This is defined in the language .xml file in the language metadata settings. If you are having locale problems (dates don't appear in your language, for example) you might want to check/edit the entries in the locale tag. This is usually found in the languages folder. For example in the English version you will find the en-GB.xml file.

Open the file and look for the metadata tag.Note that multiple locale strings can be set and the host will usually accept the first one recognised.
