Joomla Template Installation

Installing a template on Joomla is fairly straight forward. The first thing you have to do is to find the template of your choice and download it.

Joomlainformation's FREE Joomla Templates Gallery is a good place to look at. Take a look at our growing library of templates by clicking here

The template file is a zip archive (a.k.a. package file) containing everything needed for its installation.

Log in to your Administrator section of your Joomla web site

Select Extensions menu option

Select Install/Uninstall from the Extensions menu option

The Extensions Manager page will display

Click the Browse button in the Upload Package section

The Browse window will display where you will need to navigate to the folder where you downloaded your Template

Click the Upload File and Install button (this may take a few moments depending on how quick a connection you have to the Internet)

You will then see "Install Template Success" message displayed along the top of the Extensions Manager page

Select the Extensions menu option

The Extensions menu will display

Select Template Manager from the list

The Template Manager page will display

You will see a list of installed Templates. One of them will have a yellow star next to it indicating that it is the default template.

Select the radio button next to your new Template

Click the Default Star icon displayed at the top of the page to make your new Template the default template for your Joomla! web site

Your site is now displaying the newly installed template.
