"Why do I get the can't move file error message?"

When you install Joomla, Joomla automatically installs with the FTP settings switched off which is the process you need to install components and upload images to your articles.

To overcome this you will need to enter the settings given to you by your ISP (Internet Service Provider)

Click the Site menu option from the Control Panel

The Site menu option will display

Select Global Configuration from the menu option

The Global Configuration page will display

YOu will notice that there are three hyperlinks, Site, System and Server

Select the Server hyperlink

The Server settings page will display and you will notice that there is a FTP Settings section

Select the Enable FTP radio button so that Yes is selected

Leave the FTP host and FTP port as they are unless instructed by your ISP to change these values

Your ISP should have given you an FTP Username and FTP Password

Enter these details in the relevant fields

You will also need to ask your ISP what the FTP root is. It could be something like /public_html

Click the Save icon at the top of your browser to make sure your settings are saved

You should then find that when you want to upload an image to your article or install a component that you no longer receive "can't move file" error message
